The Spiritual Case for Slow Songs
A slower tempo does not guarantee depth, but it can refuse the pressure to arrive too quickly.

Slow songs are often used to signal seriousness. That can become its own shortcut: long notes, soft piano and very little actual attention.
At their best, slower tempos make room for consequence. The end of a sentence remains in the air. Breath becomes part of the phrasing. A listener cannot be hurried past the difficult word.
The spiritual value is not slowness itself. It is the refusal to confuse momentum with movement.
