A Room Can Be an Instrument
The audience becomes part of the arrangement when the stage is willing to listen back.
A room contributes more than volume. It has timing, memory and a threshold for how long it will hold a phrase before needing the band to move.
Musicians who treat the congregation as an instrument do not simply turn a microphone toward it. They leave a melodic shape open, notice what comes back and adjust the next entrance accordingly.
The result cannot be reproduced by adding crowd noise later. The room has already changed the performance from inside it.
