Call-and-response turns listening into participation before anyone has learned the whole song. The call supplies enough shape for the answer to feel inevitable, but enough space for it to feel chosen.

The form also keeps leadership audible without making it solitary. A lead voice can direct, testify or improvise, yet every phrase is measured by what the community sends back.

A closed song performs for the room. Call-and-response leaves the door open and waits for the room to enter.
