“What An Awesome God” puts scale in the melody before the production arrives.
Wickham's best melodies feel architectural. The leap in the chorus gives a congregation the sensation of looking up without requiring a complicated line.
The full arrangement is polished, but the song's bones are visible. That is why the voice-memo version survives beside it rather than functioning as a novelty.
