An inspirational surface can become a genre obligation: bright harmony, clean resolution and a final chorus arranged to prove that the difficult feeling has been successfully defeated.

Faith does not always resolve on schedule. A minor key can remain minor. A lyric can stop before the answer. Production can acknowledge anxiety without turning it into a cinematic obstacle course.

Hope sounds more credible when the record has made room for everything hope is being asked to survive.
